Working With Schools and Families

Sometimes the person you are worried about is not able to attend therapy themselves, either because of their age, reluctance/not feeling ready, or that they are not aware their families are concerned about them. Dr Wicks can support with this, even if the young person is not directly involved in the therapy.

Supporting Families and Carers

You may have somebody in your family who you are worried about but don't feel able to talk to them about it yet. They may be a young child where it would be inappropriate to have the discussion directly with them, or they could be an adolescent or adult who is not open to this conversation. I can support you by meeting with you directly to try and make sense of what could be going on for your loved one, and to support you in trying out different ways of managing this.

There may be therapeutic strategies that you can deliver yourself, and I can help you feel more confident in your approach during this stressful time.

Working with Schools

Schools and educational provisions can use the Adoption and Special Guardianship Fund to have support from me if the child or adolescent is entitled to this. You may also choose to pay for my services privately via your own budget. I can support schools with managing challenging, distressing and concerning behaviour in the classroom, by making sense of why the child may be reacting this way and what is going on for them.

I can also provide training and supportive supervision to school staff who are likely to be struggling given the circumstances. I work flexibly with schools depending on your budget and what would be most helpful. Sometimes I only work with schools for a few sessions, sometimes I provide longer-term support at a frequency which works best for you. The child does not need to be part of this work, but I can also meet with the child directly if this is appropriate.

I can also support with completing Team Around The Child reports and EHCP applications.
